The designer of the Amphi-Ranger was Gerhard Faulhaber, owner of a car company in Kehl, Baden. He invested eight years of development work in the Amphi-Ranger. In 1983 the Rheinauer Maschinen- und Armaturenbau GmbH (RMA) presented the Schwimmwagen 2800 SR. The design of the Amphi-Ranger corresponded to the VW Schwimmwagen of the Second World War. The seawater-resistant aluminum body guarantees a long service life. The vehicle was available with a soft top or hard top. The car, built in small series, had a 140 hp six-cylinder Ford engine. On the road, the vehicle, which was built until 1995, reached a top speed of 140 km/h, in the water it was 8.5 knots (15 km/h).
